“The more hands you have, the more ideas at the table. The one thing that I saw when I moved here is that we have a lot of smart, talented people, and there's no reason why we can't take advantage of and open up the way of bringing those people in. We need smart people all bringing to bear their talents and their gifts to help us figure a way forward.”

“No one has a clearer vision of what Minneapolis needs to be than DeWayne Davis,” Badgerow said. “It’s not just for the few, but for the marginalized, the unseen, the struggling. He talks about it all the time. And then he lives that vision through what he does, day to day.”

The Rev. DeWayne Davis — the 15th child of Mississippi sharecroppers — took the stage Monday night in a north Minneapolis performing arts theater and announced he is running for mayor.

“I would not be going into this office alone; I want everybody,” Davis said. “We’re going to need everybody, their skills, talent and imagination. I want to engage in a way that brings everybody from every corner into the room.”
